What is meant by crane ‘Lift Moment’?

Important to know when searching for a truck with crane is understanding the lift capability.

The term ‘lift moment’ is the load capacity of the knuckle boom crane in either tonne-metres (t/m) or foot-pounds (ft.lbs.). For example, if you need a truck crane to lift 2000 lbs. at a distance of 10 feet, then your crane must be rated at (or have a lift moment of) 2000 lbs @10 feet, or 20,000 foot-pounds.

Advantages and disadvantages of DC electric powered small booms

The main advantage of a DC powered crane over a hydraulic crane on a boom truck is ease of installation. For example, since BIGMAX electric cranes come with their own battery operated power pack, the crane can be mounted on any vehicle including trucks, trailers, and boats which has an adequate battery and sufficient stability. No separate, often costly hydraulic system is required as on a hydraulic crane.

The main disadvantage of DC powered cranes on boom trucks is that, because it is battery operated, the crane has a limited duty cycle. While ideal for more occasional use, a battery powered crane can usually run for 5 minutes every 20 minutes or so, depending on the battery strength and whether the battery is being constantly charged.
